Jeddah: Flights and Umrah Travel from Belgium

The gateway for Umrah — and the Red Sea coast beyond it.

Jeddah is the arrival point for most Umrah travel from Europe, and King Abdulaziz International is about ninety minutes by road from Makkah. It is also a real city in its own right, with an old town worth a day and a Red Sea coast most pilgrims never see.

Getting to Jeddah from Belgium

There is no direct flight from Brussels. Every routing connects — most commonly through Istanbul, Doha, Dubai or Abu Dhabi — and total journey time varies by several hours depending on which you take.

For Umrah, it is often better to fly into Jeddah and out of Madinah (or the reverse) rather than returning to the same airport. It saves the long road leg at the end of the trip, and the fare difference is usually small. Comparison sites rarely surface this; we price it as a matter of course.

Arriving at King Abdulaziz International

The airport is large and Umrah season is busy. Immigration queues can be long, and this is where a pre-booked transfer matters most — arriving at 2am after a connection, with family and luggage, is not the moment to negotiate a taxi fare.

The road to Makkah takes about ninety minutes in normal conditions and considerably longer during peak Umrah periods.

Jeddah itself

Al-Balad, the old town, is a UNESCO World Heritage site — coral-stone houses with carved wooden balconies, best walked in the late afternoon. The corniche along the Red Sea is where the city relaxes in the evening.

If you have a spare day either side of Umrah, it is worth using here rather than spending it in an airport hotel.

Travel FAQs

Is there a direct flight from Brussels to Jeddah?

No. All routings connect, most often through Istanbul, Doha, Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

How far is Makkah from Jeddah airport?

About 90 minutes by road in normal conditions — longer during peak Umrah season.

Should I fly into Jeddah or Madinah for Umrah?

Often the best answer is one each way, which saves you the long road leg at the end. We price both when quoting.

Do I need a separate Umrah visa?

Usually not — the Saudi tourist eVisa permits Umrah. We confirm the current position when you enquire, as the rules are revised periodically.

Can you arrange transport from the airport to Makkah?

Yes, and we strongly recommend pre-booking it. It is included as standard in our Umrah packages.
