Brussels to Islamabad Flights: Airlines, Routes and What Actually Matters

There is no direct flight from Brussels to Islamabad. Every option connects — most commonly through Istanbul, Doha, Abu Dhabi or Dubai — and the gap between the best and worst routing is close to a full working day of travel.

We book this route most weeks. Here is what actually decides it, in the order it should decide it.

1. Baggage allowance, not fare

This is the one people get wrong. Families travelling to Pakistan almost always carry more than a standard European allowance covers, and excess baggage bought at the airport counter is charged at a rate that makes a €60 fare saving irrelevant.

Allowances differ meaningfully between the carriers on this route, and they change by season and fare class — which is why we check them at the moment of booking rather than working from a table. Before you compare prices, work out honestly how many bags you are taking. Then compare.

2. Total journey time and the layover

Two itineraries at the same price can differ by six or seven hours end to end. A short, well-timed connection through a Gulf hub is a different trip from an overnight layover with a terminal change and nowhere to sleep.

If you are travelling with children or elderly parents, the layover is the single most important thing on the booking and it is worth paying for. If you are travelling alone and do not mind an early start, the long connection is often where the savings are.

• Check whether the connection requires changing terminal — some do, and the transfer eats an hour.
• Check the arrival time in Islamabad. Landing at 3am means arranging transport in the middle of the night.
• Check whether the two legs are on one ticket. If they are not, a delay on the first leg is your problem, not the airline’s.

3. When you fly

Fares on this route peak hard around three periods: Eid, the summer school holidays, and the December wedding season. They are, unhelpfully, exactly when most people want to travel.

If your dates have any flexibility, shifting by a week either side of a peak often changes the price substantially. If they do not — and for a wedding they usually do not — book much further ahead than you would for a European trip.

On weather: October to March is the comfortable window in Punjab and the north. June and July are extremely hot before the monsoon breaks.

4. Which airport in Belgium — and whether to leave Belgium

Brussels Airport carries essentially all the long-haul from Belgium; Charleroi is low-cost short-haul and Liège is mainly cargo. So you will be flying from Brussels.

But it is worth checking Amsterdam, Düsseldorf and Paris CDG, all within driving distance, because on this route they are sometimes materially cheaper or offer a better connection. Factor in parking and the drive before deciding — sometimes it is worth it, often it is not. We check as a matter of course and tell you either way.

5. Visas — in both directions

Belgian passport holders need a visa for Pakistan. If you hold a Pakistani passport or a NICOP/POC card the requirements are different, and it is worth confirming your card is current well before you fly.

What we would actually recommend

Travelling alone with one bag and flexible dates: take the cheapest sensible connection and accept the longer layover. Travelling as a family with luggage: pick on baggage allowance first, layover second, price third. Travelling with elderly parents: pick the shortest total journey you can afford and pre-book the transfer at the other end.
