Marrakech Holidays from Belgium
Souks, riads and the Atlas Mountains an hour away.
Marrakech is a three-and-a-half-hour direct flight from Belgium and about as different as you can get in that time. It works as a long weekend, as a week with the Atlas Mountains or the coast attached, and it is warm when Belgium is not.
Riad or resort?
A riad is a traditional courtyard house inside the medina — small, characterful, and steps from the souks. You cannot drive to the door, and the medina is loud. A resort in the Palmeraie or Hivernage is quiet, has a proper pool, and is a taxi ride from everything worth seeing.
The honest answer for most people is a riad for two or three nights, or a resort if you are bringing children and want a pool at 3pm.
When to go
Spring and autumn are ideal. July and August are very hot — over 40°C is normal — and the medina in that heat is hard work. Winter is mild during the day and genuinely cold at night, and many riads are not well heated, which surprises people.
Beyond the city
The Atlas Mountains are an hour away and make an easy day trip. Essaouira on the coast is about three hours and is a different, breezier kind of place. If you have a week, splitting it between Marrakech and one of those is better than seven nights in the medina.
